Keep Kids Entertained at Home

While places across the Paradise Coast are starting to open up again following Florida's guidelines, some of your kid's favorite places might still be closed. As most parents will attest, kids are no stranger to going a bit stir-crazy, especially after months of practicing social distancing. Fortunately, there are plenty of unique ways to keep your kids entertained without ever leaving home. Our real estate agents are navigating the same uncharted waters as everyone else, and we've put together 7 tips to help keep your kids entertained from the comfort of home.

  1. Enjoy Free Educational Games for Kids from Funbrain
Put screen time to educational use for elementary and pre-school aged children, with free educational games from Funbrain. Games are organized by age/grade level, teaching kids about math, science, the animal kingdom, and so much more. Kids will love discovering the fun of each new game, while parents love that every game has an educational component.

  2. Put Those Extra Cardboard Boxes to Good Use
With even more online shopping being done than usual, you may have a few extra Amazon boxes lying around the garage, so why not let kids get creative? Building cardboard box forts is one activity that never goes out of style, providing hours of entertainment with items that simply would have gone into the recycling bin.

  3. FaceTime with Family Members
Being isolated from favorite family members is a challenge for everyone, but technology can help bridge the gap while maintaining a sense of normalcy. Scheduling times to use FaceTime (or your preferred app) with family members has many benefits for kids and is sure to brighten the day of those family members, as well.

  4. Take a Trip to the Surface of Mars
While you're busy exploring Naples homes for sale on one screen, your kids can explore the surface of another planet on another screen! The Access Mars project, a collaboration between Google and NASA, puts you at the virtual controls of the Curiosity rover, which landed on Mars in 2011. The project uses countless photos from the rover's mission to recreate the surface of Mars.

  5. Create a Daily Schedule
While it may not be quite as exciting as exploring another planet, creating a daily schedule is one of the most essential steps for keeping kids entertained. Kids have been thrown off their routine and creating a new one will help give them a layer of normalcy.

  6. Enjoy a Virtual Tour of Yellowstone National Park
Some of the best parks in the world offer free, online virtual tours, perfect for mixing education and fun for kids of all ages. The Yellowstone National Park virtual tour allows you to tour some of the park's most famous features, like the spectacular Dragon's Mouth Spring and Lookout Point, which overlooks some of the park's beautiful waterfalls.

  7. Set Up a Treasure Hunt
Online activities are great, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from screens for a while, too. An old-fashioned treasure hunt is sure to stoke the imagination of younger kids, and it's an easy activity for parents to set up at home. Just hide a dozen or more items around the property, provide a few clues, and let your kids search.

National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week takes place every year from May 6 through May 12, providing an opportunity to recognize these vital healthcare employees for all of the great work that they do throughout the year. The celebration takes on added meaning this year, with so many nurses and healthcare workers risking their health to care for the many communities impacted by COVID-19. Whether you come from a family of nurses or you simply want to thank local nurses for their efforts, your support means more now than ever. Our real estate agents have put together a guide for how to show your thanks and support to SWFL nurses for National Nurses Week.

  • Show Your Support for Local Hospitals
Even if you don't know any nurses personally, there are several excellent hospitals close to Naples homes for sale where you can show your support. Lee Memorial Hospital offers a high standard of care in Fort Myers, with an extensive network of healthcare facilities spread throughout the area. NCH Baker Hospital Downtown is your source for healthcare in Naples, with a convenient downtown location for the main hospital. Gulf Coast Medical Center, also located in Ft. Myers offers a wide variety of emergency care options, along with facilities for complex neurological procedures. All of these local facilities are on the front lines of the response to COVID-19.

  • The Gift of Food Never Goes Out of Style
If you want a tangible way to say "thank you," then it's hard to top sending a fresh meal from a local restaurant. Healthcare workers are being stretched to the limit, working extensive hours under difficult circumstances. Ordering food can provide a sense of normalcy, and some much-needed nourishment during a busy day. By having food delivered from local restaurants, you're also supporting some of the many SWFL small businesses.

  • Reach Out to a Friend or Family Member Who Is a Nurse
Do you have friends or family members who work in nursing? Now is the perfect time to reach out, show your support, and let them know that you're thinking of them. Whether it's a friendly phone call, a video chat, or even a good old-fashioned letter in the mail, your words of support show nurses that they're not alone as they provide help for local communities. While you're reaching out, see if they could use a hand with day-to-day needs while they're busy with work. Watching kids for a few hours, taking care of tasks around the house, or making sure that pets are fed gives your favorite nurses one less reason for worry.

  • Donate Blood
Hospitals throughout the area and beyond need blood donations, and many blood drives are happening to help with supply. If possible, donating blood is a great way to give back to the healthcare community.

  • Follow CDC Guidelines
No matter what else you do to show support, following CDC guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19 is one of the best ways to make life easier for nurses. Stay healthy, stay safe, and lessen the load on local hospitals in the process.

With so many excellent healthcare facilities staffed by skilled professionals, your health is always in good hands when you call this corner of Florida home. Contact us to buy and sell homes throughout Southwest Florida communities.
