Dr. Barry Denton is a distinguished 30-year law enforcement veteran, having served with the Louisville Metro Police Department, where he retired as Commander of the Bomb Squad in 2012. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his exemplary service, receiving numerous commendations, including the Medal of Honor, three Medals of Valor, three Meritorious Commendation Awards, four Life-Saving Awards, and three Meritorious Unit Citations.

Following his retirement from law enforcement, Dr. Denton transitioned into academia, where he has been dedicated to teaching criminal justice and conflict resolution. He has served as a faculty member at the University of Louisville and Florida SouthWestern State College, while also holding the role of Major over Training for the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office in Taylorsville, Kentucky, from which he retired in 2021.

Currently, Dr. Denton is a residential real estate professional with John R. Wood Christie’s International Real Estate. He is an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), a Resort and Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS), a certified Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA), a Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), and a certified Real Estate Advisor.

His academic credentials include a certificate in Police Science from Eastern Kentucky University, a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and a master’s degree in Police Administration from the University of Louisville. He furthered his education with a second master’s degree in Emergency Management with a specialization in anti-terrorism from American Military University in 2008. In 2017, he earned a doctorate in Educational and Organizational Leadership from Spalding University. Dr. Denton is also an accomplished author, having published four books.

Now residing in Bonita Springs, Florida, Dr. Denton is the Immediate Past President of the Bonita Beach Sunset Rotary Club. He is actively involved in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving as the Deputy Assistant National Commodore (ANACO) over FORCECOM. In his free time, he is dedicated to serving his church, Covenant Church, alongside his wife of 25 years, Julie. They are proud parents of three children: Calloway (21), Caroline (26), and Thomas (37).
