5 Tips for Setting Up a Home Theater

Home Theater Tips

We're all looking for more ways to have fun at home these days, and setting up a home theater is a great way to bring the movie theater experience into the comfort of your own home. But where do you start? There are countless home theater products on the market and a wide variety of ways to customize your theater to your unique preferences. Our real estate agents are here to help you get started, with 5 key tips for setting up a home theater that your whole family will love.

  1. Choose the Right Room for Your Home Theater
Perhaps you already picked out the perfect room while shopping for Naples homes for sale, but if not, it's worth taking some time to pick the best room for a home theater setup. A room on the larger side is ideal because it leaves plenty of room for furniture, accessories, and for getting your seating just the right distance from your TV. The sound level is rich and deep with a quality home theater setup, so you may also want to choose a room located some distance from bedrooms or workspaces.

  2. Place Your TV to Minimize Glare and Maximize the Viewing Experience
The best home theaters are built around large, high-quality televisions, but even the best TVs can be hard to see when there is significant glare in the room. While the lights in the room will likely be dimmed while you're watching, natural light can still cause glare issues. Make sure that your TV is mounted where the sun won't be shining onto the screen through windows. You can also consider a curved HDTV screen because the shape helps reduce glare. Seating should ideally be placed at a distance between 1.5 and 2.5 times the diagonal measurement of your TV for the best viewing experience.

  3. Prepare to Mount Your Surround Sound Speakers
Sound is a crucial element of any home theater, and surround sound speakers add to the experience. Most surround sound systems have at least six speakers, which will need to be mounted in specific places around the room. If you're building your home theater in a room with plenty of shelving, then you may be able to hide speakers on shelves where they'll be out of the way. If not, it's relatively easy to mount speakers on walls, and you can follow the manufacturer's instructions to know exactly where to put them.

  4. A Quality Set of Headphones Is a Great Addition to Any Home Theater
Surround sound is great, but having that much sound isn't always ideal if you're watching TV late at night. Picking up a quality set of headphones makes it easy to enjoy your home theater without disturbing other members of the household. The best headphones also provide an immersive sound experience that is tough to match with traditional speakers.

  5. Don't Forget to Hide the Cords
A tangled mess of cords is the last thing that you want to see while enjoying your home theater, but fortunately, there are kits that make it easy to hide all of those unsightly cords. With the right kit and a few power tools, you can hide all of the cords connected to your TV behind the wall and out of the way.
