SWFL Cities Perfect for Your Retirement Years

SWFL CitiesFlorida has long been known as one of the greatest places to retire. Our real estate agents note that two of our local communities, Fort Myers and Naples, were named among the Top 5 Places to Retire earlier this year.

There are many reasons retirees love the Sunshine State. Florida is tax-friendly, especially for seniors who own a home. It features some of the best golf and fishing anywhere in the United States, and the healthcare is excellent.

Make the most of your retirement years when you live near these SWFL cities.

  • Bonita Springs
Bonita Springs homes for sale offer everything you imagine in the ideal Florida getaway, but it can be your own retirement lifestyle. This city of about 44,000 people sits on the state's southwest coast as part of Lee County. It is known for 342-acre Barefoot Beach Preserve Park, which holds one of the state's leading beaches. It also has an active arts and culture scene, with its 10-acre Center for Visual Arts and 4-acre Center for Performing Arts.

  • Cape Coral
Cape Coral homes for sale are what so many people think of when they think of Florida. Right on the warm Gulf of Mexico, it was established in 1957 as a planned community. Its 400 miles of navigable waterways give it a unique flair and attract anglers from all over. Although only one beach sits within city limits, there are many within 15 miles. There are several senior centers and golf courses, and grandkids will love the nearby theme parks.

  • Estero
Estero homes for sale are set away from all of the hustle and bustle in an unincorporated community of just over 22,000 people. Estero is home to both the Hertz Arena and, just outside town, Florida Gulf Coast University, where senior residents aged 60 and up are welcome to audit classes for free. The Hertz Corporation moved its headquarters here in 2013.

  • Fort Myers
Want to live where all the action is? Fort Myers homes for sale may be right for you, located in the county seat of Lee County with more than 87,000 residents. Fort Myers is where state residents go when they want to explore "the real Florida," and it contains the historic estates of both Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Known as the City of Palms, it was founded after the Civil War. It has multiple museums, universities, and a historic downtown.

  • Marco Island
Marco Island homes for sale offer an exclusive and secluded getaway for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Found 20 miles south of Naples, Marco Island is the largest of Southwest Florida's "Ten Thousand Islands" – but don't let that mislead you: It's just under 25 square miles, and more than half is water. It serves as a year-round resort for beachgoers and boating enthusiasts.

  • Naples
Naples homes for sale grant another opportunity to retire where other people can only vacation. This city of 20,000 residents is a leading tourism hub with six major parks and natural areas, including the one-of-a-kind Everglades National Park. It is also a performing arts hub, with some of the region's finest venues.
